Pharmacists win battle for CD prescribing rights
04 April 2012
Pharmacist independent prescribers will be able to prescribe Controlled Drugs from 23 April 2012, following changes to legislation which have been approved by Parliament.
From that date, pharmacist and nurse independent prescribers across Great Britain will be able to prescribe and administer, as well as give directions for the administration of, Schedule 2,3,4 and 5 CDs. They will also be able to compound these drugs.
They will only be able to prescribe diamorphine, dipipanone and cocaine for the treatment of disease or injury and not for patients being treated for addiction.
